A newly recruited family physician is available to provide care to residents in the Central Zone.
Dr. Ignacio Del Papa is working out of Delburne Medical Centre and provides hospitalist services at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
He received his medical education at the University of Buenos Aires and practised most recently in Argentina prior to coming to Canada.
Individuals needing a family doctor can call 403-749-3939 to arrange a meet-and-greet appointment.
“Family doctors are vital to the health of Alberta families and communities,” said Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health, and MLA for Red Deer-North. “Dr. Del Papa is a welcome addition to Red Deer, and he is sure to be a great asset to our community and the surrounding area.”
Del Papa said moving to a smaller city with a slower pace of life is what attracted him to Central Alberta.
“Having the opportunity to work in a small community, where you have the chance to really know your patients, has only increased my desire to work here,” he said.
In his leisure time, he enjoys playing tennis, soccer and board games with his family.
“Red Deer is the third largest city in the best province in Canada,” said Jason Stephan, MLA for Red Deer-South. “It is good to see medical professionals coming to Red Deer to serve families and individuals in our wonderful community.”
Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs.
AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
