There'll be plenty of pink at the SLS Centre this Saturday with the return of the annual Pink in the Rink game of the U18 AA Bow Valley Timberwolves.
It's become a tradition of this, and other Timberwolves teams, to help create awareness and raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Funds from the U18 game will support the fight against breast cancer.
Opening ceremonies for the game against the West Central Tigers are slated to begin at 2:15 p.m. Before the Timberwolves even hit the ice, decked out in pink jerseys and socks donated by Cedarglen Homes, you'll enter a brightly decorated foyer. Raffles and the silent auction table will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the foyer by Totem 2 and information will be available on the fight against breast cancer.
"We've got some pre and post-game ceremonies and we're expecting it to be a great event," says Marc Gelinas, a minor hockey director and parent of one of the players. "It's a perfect family afternoon outing at the SLS. We want to pack the rink."
Allison Harvie, vice-president of sales and marketing for Cedarglen Homes, who is currently going through cancer treatment, will be participating in the ceremonial puck drop.
Olly Postanin and Jacob Ardown of On the Bench, a sensation on YouTube, will also be on hand, says Gelina.
Spectators are encouraged to wear some pink to show their support.
