The Lacombe Performing Arts Centre (LPAC) is featuring its first solo photography show.
The Fabulous@40+ exhibit opened up on Jan. 17 and will remain on display in the main lobby until Feb. 28.
"Local photographer Sherry Penner set out to photograph women over 40 years of age," explained community programmer Ali Clayton. "She's got her signature artistic photography style as well as the glamour shots that she did of some people."
The exhibit, which features 37 pieces, is also part of the Exposure Photography Festival out of Calgary, which is another first for LPAC.

Clayton says over 120 women were photographed for the project which spanned over four seasons. The LPAC exhibit is just a small portion of what Penner has done.
"I had recently been introduced to her work and I came across this and the fact that it's all local women and it is showcasing people who don't usually get showcased," stated Clayton. "We were excited to just bring that opportunity to a local photographer. We knew for a long time that we wanted to be a part of the Exposure Photography Festival and it was very important to choose someone local and we just happened to cross paths with Sherry and everything fell into place and just clicked."
She says it's neat to see local faces on the wall in a different light than you would see them at the hockey rink.
"We're getting a different side of the women that are showcased here," remarked Clayton.
An opening reception will take place at the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre on Feb. 5 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. The event is open to the public and free to attend. Penner will be in attendance and will give an artist talk at 7:30 p.m.
Some of the women featured in the Fabulous@40+ exhibit will also be in attendance.
