The southeast will soon get to hear from farm families around the areas as the Estevan Chamber of Commerce's Farm Family of the Year is entering its nomination period soon.
This year they're celebrating their 60th anniversary for the event, looking to celebrate agriculture in the Estevan area.
Executive Director Merissa Scarlett talks about how they want to see the community come together for the sector.
"The goal of our Farm Family awards is it started out as a way to thank and celebrate our local farm families around the area and why the Chamber is involved, it's a thank you for all the support to our local economy. So basically it's just a way to celebrate our local farmers."
It'll be Scarlett's first year of being the Executive Director during the event and she's excited to have people there.
"So it's been going on 60 years and I think that's fantastic. I didn't realize how long this event was going on. It started out used to be like a whole day for farmers to come in and now we've moved it into a supper with speakers and the presentation of the award."
Besides the award, the night will be filled with a number of activities.
"Basically it's a supper, usually it's roast beef, so delicious. Then we usually have 4H speeches and then we are welcoming two speakers this year. We went big for speakers, We have Axten farms, a local farm and they're going to speak more about how they do things and the processes they use and then our keynote speaker is John Gormley. Everybody knows him as the voice of Saskatchewan and he's going to be talking about his 25 years in radio and where he's at now."
Nominations are open until March 1st, with Scarlett hoping to see plenty come in.
"We have a nomination form on our website under the event listing you can go there and grab the form. The person being nominated has to live in the 12 surrounding RMs, so we do have that list on our social media and on the event page as well. They have to be somebody who's celebrated not only just in farming, but also being involved in their community as well."
