The Town and County of Stettler are continuing to address the doctor shortage.

The Town and County of Stettler are continuing to advocate for residents to receive health care close to home.  

Recruitment efforts include financial incentives for doctors, and events with organizations including Stettler Needs Doctors and the Health Professional Attraction and Retention Committee.  

The town and county are also advocating to the provincial and federal governments for reforms to Alberta Health, Health Canada, and professional associations to encourage doctors to choose rural practice.

To address the doctor shortage, the Stettler Needs Doctors group is continuing to showcase the needs of the region, while the Stettler Health Foundation’s fundraising efforts have incentivized relocation and helped new doctors establish their practices.  

The County of Stettler Housing Authority board is working to help solve temporary health care provider housing needs, including doctors, paramedics, and veterinarians by renovating and utilizing vacant seniors' housing units.  

“To our existing doctors, locums, nurses, ambulance teams, clinics, and all our healthcare workers: thank you for going above and beyond during this doctor shortage,” the County of Stettler website said. “Your continued and tireless dedication to our community while we weather this storm leaves us endlessly grateful.”
