Clearwater County’s Broadband Internet project is underway, which will bring reliable high-speed internet to the area.
The county says fibre-optic internet is future-proof and will meet the demands of a modern society while reducing the digital divide for Clearwater County residents.
The project is funded through the Universal Broadband Fund, a Canadian federal initiative with additional support from the Alberta provincial government.
Clearwater County’s Internet plan rollout will be broken down into five stages using a combination of fibre-optic cable and wireless towers to provide high-speed internet connectivity throughout the County.
The network would operate as an Open Access platform; this refers to a shared network infrastructure where multiple service providers can offer their services to users. This allows users to choose from a variety of service providers and offerings, potentially reducing costs for consumers while leading to better service quality.
Open Access optimizes network resources, promotes competition and empowers users to choose the services they prefer.
Advantages of using fibre-optic technology include: High Speeds, Reliability, Security, and Scalability.
The County will be engaging with residents through multiple initiatives to communicate project development updates.
This will include in-person Open Houses starting in spring 2025 (dates TBD) as well as virtual events for registered participants.
