The following report detailing events from Dec. 21 to Jan. 21 was issued by Ponoka RCMP:

December 21, 2024 - Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a male laying in the ditch of highway 2A just north of Ponoka. Members made extensive patrols but were unable to locate anyone.

December 25, 2024 – Members attended a local apartment building following a report of a female passed out in the stairwell. The unknown female was then seen walking away, patrols were made but were unsuccessful.

December 25, 2024 – Members responded to a report of a collision on Range Road 274. It was reported that a person stopped to help the driver but they declined any assistance. The complainant felt the driver in the ditch may have been intoxicated so decided to contact the police. Members attended the scene and located the vehicle which was unoccupied.

December 25, 2024 – Police responded to the 5100 block of 46 Avenue following a report of a male banging on a door and yelling to be let in. Upon arrival, police located a male sitting in a vehicle covered in blood, a swollen face and a laceration to the back of his hand. The pending investigation lead to several charges against a female including aggravated assault. The male was transported to the hospital for treatment.

December 29, 2024 – Police attended Hammy’s grocery store following a report of an unknown male and female leaving the store with a grocery cart full of unpaid product. Staff were able to retrieve some of the items but the two managed to get away. The matter is still under investigation.

January 2, 2025 – A collision on 54 Street in which a vehicle collided with a telephone pole and the driver was seen fleeing the scene leading to the driver receiving an IRS suspension. The vehicle was seized and towed.

January 5, 2025 – Two unruly patrons at a local bar reported to police that they were forcefully removed from the premises and that the bartender attempted to assault them. Members arrived on the scene, the two males had left the area. Staff at the bar reported that the males were cut off and were clearly unhappy with that decision, at one point the males had attempted to serve themselves some alcohol and were escorted out of the bar. No physical assault occurred.

January 7, 2025 – Ponoka County reported the theft of a New Holland skid steer. The skid steer was taken from a Sea-Can that was stored near the Ponoka High School. The matter is still under investigation.

January 8, 2025 – A hairy situation at the Ponoka dog park led to a physical confrontation between two dog owners. The victim stated that he took his dog to the park and was met by several other dogs leading to the dogs fighting. Another male ran after the victim’s dog with an unknown spray, returned to the victim and threw him to the ground forcing the victim to leave the park. The matter is still under investigation.

January 15, 2025 - Police responded to a 2-vehicle collision on Highway 2A south of Ponoka. Police, Fire and EMS attended the scene. The two vehicles were heavily damaged, one driver was trapped and required extrication. Both drivers were transported to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

January 21, 2025 - Ponoka RCMP received a report of Fraud. The victim was contacted by phone advising that their Shoppers Drug Mart card had been compromised and directed the victim to purchase $2,000 worth of Amazon cards. The fraudster convinced the victim that the money would be returned to their account. The victim checked their account and the money was not returned. It was determined that two of the four Amazon cards were unused and police had the victim transfer the card value to the victim’s family member's Amazon account to prevent any further loss of funds. The matter is still under investigation.
