The Red Deer Rebels fell short Sunday in Calgary in their bid to win two in a row this weekend.

The Rebels were outscored 6-1 by the Hitmen after beating the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 5-1 on Saturday.

Red Deer had lost 13 straight before Saturday's win at Peavey Mart Centrium.

Penalties were the big story in this matchup for Red Deer, who gave up a trio of power play markers.

Carter Yakemchuk opened the scoring for the Hitmen at 7:32 of the first with his 15th goal of the season. Tanner Howe would make it 2-0 at 6:52 of the second.

Samuel Drancak got the Rebels on the board later in the period, but Calgary would respond with two more before the end of the second.

The Hitmen added two more in the third for the 6-1 win.

Calgary outshot Red Deer 34-18 on the night. The Rebels went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Hitmen finished the night 3-for-5.

With the win, Calgary improved its record to 28-12-3-2 on the season, moving them into third spot in the WHL Eastern Conference standings.

Red Deer fell to 16-24-4-2 with the loss and sit in ninth spot in the east.

The Rebels will look to rebound Wednesday in Brandon against the Wheat Kings. Puck drop is at 6 p.m.
