The City of Estevan is clarifying how they'll be sharing their information with the public following the closure of Estevan's newspaper.
Estevan needs to meet certain legislative requirements for sharing some info with the public, including The Cities Act, The Elections Act, the Tax Enforcement Act, and the Land Development Act.
Instead, those legally required notices will be placed on two bulletin boards, one at city hall and the other at Leisure services.
The city will also now publish these updates into the provincial gazette, which can be seen at the government's website here.
Other info methods will be available for citizens from the city
- Estevan.ca's homepage news section.
- Digital Media banner ads as required.
- Social media pages.
- Mailing of notice to residents will still be required in some circumstances of affected property owners.
- Registered Mail is also required under some legislations and will be used for enforcement.
- Utility Bills are an option for some less time-sensitive information. Due to bills being sent out only every second month, it will take 2 months to notify the entire city.
- Sandwich boards on affected properties where allowed.
