The Boys and Girls Club Wolf Creek (BGC) is running a program right now called Mentoring Matters.
Beth Reitz, the Executive Director of BGC explains what the program is all about.
"We run the mentoring programs that used to go through Big Brothers /Big Sisters in Ponoka and Rimbey. Now we run them just through The Boys and Girls Club. We are halfway through our mentoring year and in Ponoka, we have about 15 kids on a waiting list; in Rimbey, we have about 10. "
Reitz says they would like to fill these mentoring positions over the next six months to be prepared for when school ends. She also says the need for more mentors is higher than ever.
As far as ages go for mentors, Reitz says it’s wide open.
"It's grade 10 and up, where we do a lot of teen mentoring with the high school and match them with a kid in the elementary school. They can get credits for that. And then for adult mentors, it’s anyone from 18-88 years old.”
If you are interested in becoming a mentor the best thing to do is contact Jill Little who is the Director of Support Programs for the Boys and Girls Club Wolf Creek. Her number is 403-783-3112.
