The City of Lacombe held an Open House Thursday evening at the LMC to gather feedback on potential changes to the Land Use Bylaw.

"We're looking at possible changes to the Land Use Bylaw, which would allow stand-alone offices and retail sales in the Light Industrial District," explained Senior Development Officer Jennifer Kirk. "Right now, currently you can have those if they're accessory or smaller to the main use happening."

She says a good example of this is a car wash.

"The car wash is the main use that's industrial. It can have an office because it needs it and it's smaller to the main use, so then it can have it as an accessory use, but a stand-alone office, such as an accounting office right now would not be allowed without going through a Land Use Bylaw amendment procedure."

Kirk notes that there has been feedback both for and against the proposed changes.

The City will be gathering feedback on the issue until Feb. 14.

It will then go to Council for first reading on Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. If that passes, the issue would go to second and third reading, with a public hearing taking place during second reading.

Residents can submit comments to development@lacombe.ca or stop by City Hall.
