Estevan author Betty McGilllivray is marking a special milestone in her journey as a published author with the release of the audiobook version of her debut book, Fun Is Where You Make It. Just one year after hitting the shelves, readers can now experience McGillivray’s heartfelt and humorous stories in a new way.
“Oh, it has been a thrilling year,” McGillivray shared. “It was my dream to be a published author, and so I have had so much fun. I’ve been out to libraries and different places sharing my stories, sharing laughter and joy, and letting people share their stories with me as well.”
The audiobook was a highly anticipated project, with many fans requesting the chance to hear McGillivray tell the stories in her own voice. “All along people have told me that they would like me to do the audio version of my book,” McGillivray explained. “Basically, my book is full of stories that I have told, so it’s kind of should happen where my book should be available, where people can hear me tell my stories.”
The audiobook is now available on platforms such as Kobo and Spotify and will soon be coming to platforms such as Audible through Amazon, the audiobook gives listeners the chance to hear McGillivray’s funny, relatable tales about teaching, small-town life, family, and everything in between. “The audio version just adds that little bit more of you can hear me telling the stories,” she said.
For McGillivray, it’s been an exciting year. She’s already had the thrill of seeing her book on bookstore shelves, but the audiobook release takes things to a new level. “It’s so cool to see my book on shelves. In bookstores and stores and… Oh, it’s just been like pinch me,” she said.
Though the journey has had its challenges, McGillivray is grateful for the support of friends and helpers who assisted with the process. “It’s been a year, but it’s been a great year, and it wasn’t done without some help from friends who have a little know-how of how to do these sorts of things,” she said. “When we hit roadblocks, we just found people that helped us out.”
With the audiobook now available, McGillivray is already looking ahead to future projects. “Once a writer, always a writer,” she said. “I’ve had some funny things happen to me, so I’ve jotted them down. It’d be great to have another story. I’ve also written some children’s books, children’s stories, I guess. Not books yet, and I’ve currently got my latest story out, seeing if maybe a publisher might be interested.”
For now, fans of Fun Is Where You Make It can enjoy the audio version and take in McGillivray’s stories wherever they go.
