The Estevan Police Service (EPS) responded to a few incidents over the past couple of days, including reports of a breach of release conditions, a hit-and-run, and fraud.
On Feb. 2, EPS members attended a local hotel after a resident reported that an individual was on the property despite release conditions prohibiting contact with them. Officers spoke with the male subject, advised him of the complaint, and cautioned that if he returned, he would be arrested and charged with breaching his release conditions. He left the property without further incident.
The following day, police concluded an investigation into a hit-and-run that occurred on Jan. 25. Witness statements were provided, and the driver of the offending vehicle was located. The driver was warned about leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it to the victim or police. The matter has been referred to SGI.
Police received a report of bitcoin fraud under $5,000, which remains under investigation. EPS reminds the public to be cautious of any company requesting money in exchange for a larger sum. Those with concerns can contact EPS at 306-635-4767 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
EPS also responded to a disturbance in a residential area in the city core. An investigation determined that an assault and property damage had occurred. The matter remains under investigation.
