Three residents of Brazeau County are facing charges after the Drayton Valley RCMP recovered stolen vehicles.

On Jan. 22, the Drayton Valley RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.   

Surveillance was obtained from a local business and was relayed to the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CAD CRU).  

Members of the CAD CRU were assisting the Rimbey RCMP and observed what they believed to be the same vehicle, along with a second stolen vehicle, in Clearwater County, near Alder Flats.  

Air Services was requested to assist and the two vehicles were located.  

Both vehicles attempted to flee, but a tire deflation device was deployed and successful in stopping the vehicles momentarily until the drivers eventually abandoned one of the vehicles.  

The drivers fled in the second vehicle to a residence and attempted to hide in a forested area, before fleeing on foot.  

Morgan Bud Hansen a 30-year-old resident of Brazeau County, was charged with:   

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 x2   

  • Possession of break-in instruments  

  • Flight from a police officer  

  • Possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose  

  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle, operation of motor vehicle while prohibited  

  • Failure to comply with alcohol/drug recognition demand  

Hansen also had traffic safety act-related warrants.  

He was brought before a Justice of the Peace, where he was remanded with a court date of Feb. 12, in the Alberta Court of Justice in Breton.   

Derek Fernand Lavoie a 35-year-old resident of Brazeau County was charged with:  

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 x2  

  • Possession of break-in instruments   

  • Flight from a police officer  

Lavoie also had a conditional sentencing order.   

He was brought before a Justice of the Peace, where he was remanded with a court date of Feb. 12, in the Alberta Court of Justice in Breton.  

Kristy Lee Knapp a 38-year-old resident of Brazeau County, was charged with:   

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 x2  

  • Possession of break-in instruments   

  • Failure to comply with release order conditions x 2  

Knapp had five warrants for possession of stolen property, flight from a police officer, and failure to attend court.  

Knapp was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded with a court date of Feb. 12, in the Alberta Court of Justice in Breton.
