UPDATE: The first leg of the McLeod series, set to begin in Weyburn, has been postponed due to heavy snowfall affecting travel in the southeast. No specific details have been provided.

The McLeod series is kicking off tonight with the Estevan and Weyburn boys and girls seniors teams facing off over the next two weeks.
Tonight's first matchups will see the Estevan Comprehensive School and Weyburn Comprehensive School teams go head to head in Weyburn, with more matches scheduled next week for Estevan.
Weyburn head coach for the senior girl's basketball team Karly Johnson talks about their hopes for the matchup.
"They have a long-standing tradition between Estevan and Weyburn, we're actually in the 88th year that has been on. It's the longest series in the province between any two teams, so it's pretty exciting. I mean that it's set so far back, we started in 1932."
Johnson says that her team is pumped for the event, hoping to get a win following Estevan's victory last year.
That excitement may be dampened by the inclement weather that's approaching the southeast with a reschedule possible.
"We've had weather issues before and it doesn't turn into a big deal. We just postpone it and wait. So we'll see what happens next week is next week. We're supposed to be going to Estevan on Wednesday, so it'll just be a day of decision. If the roads are still getting bad, I'm sure we'll be getting a phone call from Estevan saying 'You know what? It's not safe to travel,' and we don't want anybody on the roads if it's not safe."
So long as the weather cooperates, the first game will see the boys senior teams play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the girls at 7:30.
The series will then be decided with another pair of games on Wednesday, February 12th, hosted at the Estevan Comprehensive School.
