A Central Alberta chapter of a national organization wants to help workers and families of workers who have been injured at the workplace.
Karla Klein, The Marketing and Media Coordinator for Threads of Life explains what the organization is.
“Threads of Life brings hope and healing to Canadian families, who have been affected by a workplace fatality, a life-altering injury or an occupational disease. It's a national charity connecting more than 3,900 family members through one-on-one peer support, links to community support services, and the opportunity to take action to help prevent similar tragedies to other families.”
According to the Threads of Life website, in Canada, three workers will die every day, and hundreds will be seriously injured or made ill because of work.
Another part of the organization is the fund-raising program, Steps for Life. Klein explains what the money is raised for.
"The money goes to fund the one-on-one peer support community resources. If they need help, or if they've been hurt, it helps them with that.”
There is a big fundraiser coming up on May 4th for Central Alberta. It’s the Steps for Life walk. It’s a public-awareness event that gets families together and fundraises for their organization. Registration is already open and everyone is invited to attend, take part in the walk or just donate. Steps for Life is also looking for sponsors.
