The Sylvan Lake Wranglers are busy preparing for the second round of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) playoffs.

The Wranglers received a first-round bye after winning their third straight Northern Division title with a 34-3-1 record. Sylvan Lake finished atop the HJHL standings.

Sylvan Lake is ranked as the #1 Junior B hockey team in Canada and is entering the playoffs on a 14-game winning streak. The team put together a 17-game winning streak from Oct. 5 to Dec. 6.

Other accomplishments this season included finishing with the best penalty kill in the league (91.79%), the second-best power play (21.94%), most goals scored (220), fewest goals against (57), best goal differential (+163) and most shutouts (10).

Sylvan Lake will take on the winner of the best-of-three first-round series between the Airdrie Thunder and Three Hills Thrashers. The Wranglers were undefeated against both teams this season.

Game 1 of the best-of-five second round takes place Fri. Feb 21 at 8 p.m. in Sylvan Lake at the NexSource Centre.

On Feb. 8th, the Sylvan Lake Wranglers celebrated their graduating 21-year-old players; Justin Gyori, Bret Gerrits, Tyson Tisdale, and Reed Sparrow.
