Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA and Alberta Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors Devin Dreeshen says he will not be putting his name forward to replace his father as MP for Red Deer - Mountain View.

Earl Dreeshen announced last month that he will not be running in the next federal election.

Devin made the announcement on Facebook on Tuesday, noting he believes he can make the greatest impact in his current role.

"Over the last few months, I have been encouraged to put my name forward for the new federal Red Deer riding and to help Pierre Poilievre form the next government," he said. "I want to thank everyone for their encouragement and confidence, but I believe I can make the greatest impact from where I am, leading from Alberta. I will continue to represent my constituents in Edmonton, as the UCP MLA for Innisfail – Sylvan Lake."

Dreeshen says he is confident that there will be a federal election soon and that Pierre Poilievre will become the Prime Minister of Canada.

"I am confident that a federal Conservative government can use the signed Alberta-led economic corridor agreements to prioritize nation building projects from new highways, railways, electrical utility lines, and energy pipelines," the social media post stated.

He highlighted the fact that since Alberta Premier Danielle Smith appointed him as Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, Dreeshen has signed agreements with the Prairie provinces and the Northwest Territories on economic corridors to politically de-risk new nation buidling projects that would go beyond Alberta's landlocked borders.

Dreeshen, 37, was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake in 2018. He was re-elected in 2019 and 2023. He was sworn in as Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors on October 24, 2022, having previously served as Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.
