Some topics during the Feb. 13 Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) Board of Trustees regular meeting included a timeline for the 2025/2026 budget, a potential Advanced Placement course at the Lacombe Composite High School, and the Stakeholders’ Summit.
Here are the meeting highlights:
Potential Advanced Placement Course at École Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School
The Board received a report on the potential introduction of an Advanced Placement (AP) course at École Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School (ESLCHS). On Jan. 29, a meeting was held with ESLCHS staff and a College Board representative to explore offering AP Seminar – Nature, a course closely aligned with the school's existing programming. AP courses provide students the opportunity to earn both high school and university credits. Further discussions will take place as course offerings for next year are determined.
Stakeholders’ Summit
The Board received a report on the Stakeholders’ Summit held on Jan. 31, at the Lacombe Memorial Centre with 240 participants, including parents, teachers, support staff, administration, division office staff, and trustees. This event brought together representatives from across the Division to support the renewal of the Education Plan. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and the information gathered from discussions will be compiled and shared with the Board to guide planning for 2025/2026 and beyond.
School Website Redesign
The Board received a report on the School Website Redesign initiative. A School Website Review Committee has been formed to oversee the project in collaboration with Rally, the Division’s website provider. The committee includes representatives from communications, technology, school administration, and Rally. This redesign is based on feedback from students, parents, and staff gathered through a communications survey. The updated websites are targeted for launch in March or April.
Virtual Attendance at Annual Autism Conference
The Board received a report on the Superintendent's virtual attendance at the Annual Autism Conference on Jan. 30, alongside members of the Education Services team. Key speakers included Shelley Moore, who emphasized that inclusion goes beyond direct support—it involves creating an environment where all students feel included. The sessions provided valuable insights into inclusive education practices.
2025/2026 Budget Timeline
The Board approved a Committee of the Whole meeting on April 3, to review the 2025/2026 budget. The discussion will include budget proposals, staffing allocations, and funding details. The finalized budget will be presented for approval at the May Board Meeting and submitted to Alberta Education by May 31.
Approval of School Calendars for 2025-2027
The Board approved the base calendar for the 2025/2026 school year and the draft calendar for 2026/2027. These approvals provide long-term planning clarity for students, families, and staff across the division. They will be posted on the division website.
