Estevan has seen a harsh weekend as the last of the extreme cold warning will see the area set a few cold weather records.

With temperatures being reported at -39 today and wind chill bumping that even higher, the whole southeast is getting absolutely battered.

Even on the world stage, Estevan is seeing a lot of cold weather, with it listed among the top coldest places on Earth according to a report from Weather Now.

It's quite the weather for the area, with Environment Canada Meteorologist Rose Carlsen saying the whole province is in a deep freeze.

"Right now we're experiencing very cold temperatures over Saskatchewan. There's basically a corridor of temperature of air temperatures between -38 to -40, extending essentially from Meadow Lakes, Saskatchewan all the way down to Estevan and then continuing into the northern plains of the US."

"We're going to be experiencing this weather for a little bit more this week then we were looking towards a pattern shift closer to this weekend where we're going to be experiencing pretty significant warm up."

For now, we're feeling some record-breaking cold, with the previous one being broken by five whole degrees

"The historical low um is -36. On this morning, we are looking at -39. The record for tomorrow is -34, so we're probably looking at another one for there too."

Carlsen says people need to be aware and keep out of the cold to avoid exposure.

"If you can, stay indoors as much as you can. If you do have to go outdoors, make sure that you're bundling up, layering up, covering up as much skin as you can, and then, like I said, just try to reduce your exposure. If you have to go outside, try to get back inside as soon as you can."
