The Big Six Hockey League saw its second-round kick-off last night when the Oxbow Huskies played the Redvers Rockets in the first game of the series.
The Rockets pulled out a win to get ahead in the series, but that wasn't without contention as the Huskies competed with them with the final score being 5-3.
Rae Wright, the manager for the Oxbow Huskies, says it was a tough matchup.
"Well, they have a very strong hockey team, that's for sure. Redver is so strong defensively that you don't get a lot, an awful lot of scoring chances in the game. When you do, you gotta make them count, but I think we played with them obviously, it was five-three with an empty net goal. So I'm not gonna just hand them the series yet."
Wright says that he hopes a player returning from an injury can help push the team further.
"We've got one defenceman that wasn't there coming back tomorrow night. We got 2 defensemen hurt, so we're short on the defence right now. So we get him back, hopefully, that'll help us some."
The two teams battle again in Oxbow tomorrow night with the potential final game of the series set for next Tuesday.
Wright also encourages people to come out to their Saturday provincials game against the Assiniboia Rebels, which will include a 50/50 with the proceeds going toward the MRI machine project at St. Joseph's Hospital in Estevan.
