RCMP have confirmed that the heavy police presence north of Ponoka has ended with all suspects safely arrested.

Further details are expected to be released later today.

Just before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, Ponoka RCMP issued an advisory of heavy police presence east of Highway 2A, north of Township 440 along Battle River, for a police operation involving a suspect and a weapon.

Police were asking residents in this area to stay inside, lock their doors and stay away from windows while officers respond.

"We understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, be rest assured, your Alberta RCMP is working tirelessly to locate a suspect. We ask that the public remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or tips to the Ponoka RCMP or Crime Stoppers," stated an RCMP media release.
