Estevan Fire Rescue was out in the community even as an extreme cold warning blanketed Estevan as they responded to numerous calls.
On February 10th, a crew was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision in the central part of the city. Once the duty officer arrived, it was found that EFR was not required, and units were stood down.
Later in the week, on February 12th, a crew was alerted to an odor investigation at a restaurant in Central Estevan. When attending the situation with gas detection equipment, a crew member found no readings in the building and figured the smell was likely caused by a plugged sewer stack due to the cold weather.
Later that day, a crew attended another two-vehicle collision in the Northeast part of the city. Once again, the crews were found not needed and stood down.
Once again on February 15th, a crew was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision in Central Estevan. This time crews assisted by disabling the vehicles, cleaning up the debris, and conducting traffic control. The accident is currently under investigation.
Rounding out their week, on February 18th a crew was alerted and responded to commercial fire alarms in the South part of the city. When they arrived they found the stairwell of the building full of smoke, with crews determining that an electric motor had failed. Crews turned the scene over to property management after ventilating the structure.
