The Wetaskiwin RCMP were recently made aware of online accusations claiming that officers picked up a male from a homeless shelter in Wetaskiwin and dropped him off in a remote rural location in the extreme cold.

Following the report, RCMP reviewed the allegation.

On Feb. 16, at 8:44 p.m., the Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of male causing a disturbance at the homeless shelter in Wetaskiwin.

In order to prevent the continuation of any offences and for the male’s safety, RCMP officers provided the male a courtesy ride to a fellow family members home. After confirming with the homeowner that the male was welcome police departed.

"RCMP are now advising that citizens should take what is circulating on social media with skepticism," an Alberta RCMP news release said. "Reports such as these degrade public confidence and cause unnecessary fear and anxiety."
