BGC Wolf Creek is encouraging Central Albertans to spread kindness and promote anti-bullying for Pink Shirt Day today (Feb. 26).

Every Wednesday in February, the BGC Ponoka Youth Centre team wore pink shirts leading up to the official day.

“It’s a really great reminder when we wear those shirts that we are standing up for kindness and respecting each other,” said Beth Reitz Executive Director of Ponoka Youth Centre/BGC of Wolf Creek.

This year, pink shirts that were designed by Lacombe students are available for purchase at BGC locations in Lacombe, Blackfalds, Ponoka, and Rimbey.

Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 in Nova Scotia after students Travis Price and David Shepherd witnessed another student Chuck McNeill get bullied for wearing a pink shirt.

Price and Shepherd bought pink shirts and encouraged their classmates to wear them, and the majority of students arrived at school wearing pink.
