Estevan police laid multiple charges and launched several investigations following a series of incidents in the city, including a drug trafficking arrest, thefts, vandalism, and a suspected case of identity fraud.

A 33-year-old Estevan man was arrested on Feb. 18 and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and fraud under $5,000.

That same day, police responded to a theft from the locker rooms at the Leisure Centre. Officers located the suspect, and the stolen items were returned to the victim.

Estevan Fire and Rescue, EMS, and EPS responded to a fire alarm at a seniors' residence. Electrical equipment was the source of the smoke.

A report of vandalism at an apartment complex in central Estevan is under investigation.

Police are also investigating a report of theft from a local retailer.

A male and female reported receiving threatening phone calls and messages. Police are obtaining a statement as part of their investigation.

On Feb. 19, police were called to a motor vehicle accident at 6th Street and 13th Avenue late in the afternoon. It was reported as an injury accident. EMS and Estevan Fire and Rescue attended. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and required towing. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Police also responded to a disturbance at a local liquor establishment. A 48-year-old man was arrested for breaching his conditions of no contact with a previous assault victim. He was also found to be violating his condition prohibiting him from being in a licensed liquor establishment. The man was intoxicated and lodged in cells. He will appear in Estevan court at a later date.

Later, officers located a vehicle that had been reported drifting in the parking lot of a local retail store. The driver was issued a ticket for stunting.

Police also received a report of a missing phone at the Leisure Centre. The matter remains under investigation.

On Feb. 20, police were called about a possible identity theft. It was reported that an individual may have used another person’s account to purchase items and have them delivered elsewhere. The matter remains under investigation.

Police also received a phone call from an individual claiming to be a lawyer seeking details about another person. When officers attempted to verify the caller’s identity and workplace, the individual refused to provide that information. Police recognized the caller’s voice and confronted them. The individual then disconnected the recorded call. The matter is being investigated as an impersonation file.
