A local product has committed to the Humboldt Broncos for the upcoming 2025-26 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season.

On Friday, the Broncos announced the commitment of 2007-born defenceman AJ Paulsen.

The Humboldt native is in his first season with the Prairie Hockey Academy’s U18 Prep Program and has posted 15 points (2G-13A) in 31 games this season.

Paulsen has spent the last three seasons in Caronport with the Prairie Hockey Academy’s Prep Program U16-18 squads. The 6’5 195lb defender spent the rest of his hockey career at home within Humboldt’s Minor Hockey system.

In a team release, Broncos Head Coach and General Manager Brayden Klimosko said “AJ is a big kid first of all. That type of size on your blueline is incredibly sought after and hard to find. That size gives him an incredible reach which covers a good amount of ice in the D-zone. He’s a Humboldt kid which we love and has a mean streak in his game which we also love. AJ’s potential is undeniable and we’re looking forward to working with him for years to come.”

AJ’s older brother, McLaren Paulsen played 17 games with the Broncos during the 2022-23 season.
