The Ponoka RCMP responded to assaults, robbery with a firearm, and fraud between Jan. 26 and Feb. 18.

The Ponoka RCMP issued a report on some of the calls received between Jan. 26 and Feb. 18.  

Here are the calls:  

Jan. 26 - Police were called after a citizen reported seeing an unknown male run through their property towards two motorhomes being stored on the property. Members attended, the male was gone, and the motorhomes were not damaged or touched.  

Jan. 27 – Reported to police was mischief to a vehicle. In the morning the vehicle owner discovered that someone had entered their unlocked vehicle and damaged the steering column. No suspects or video evidence was identified.  

Jan. 27 – A 911 call came in reporting an assault with a weapon where a female attacked another female striking her in the head with a crowbar. Members attended and located the injured female bleeding from a wound to her head. A description of the assailant was provided and members made extensive patrols throughout the area but were unable to locate anyone matching that description. No witnesses were identified, and the injured female was transported to the hospital for treatment.  

Jan. 27 – A member, while on patrol, located a heavily intoxicated male lying in a snowbank. EMS was called and attended where the male was assessed and transported to the hospital for treatment.  

Jan. 30 – Ponoka RCMP received a complaint from a person who reported that money was loaned to a friend to go gambling, the friend had won an undisclosed amount of money, and they refused to split the winnings with the complainant. The officer explained that this was not a police matter.   

Feb. 6 - Ponoka RCMP was called to assist EMS to gain entry to a residence where a 91-year-old male lived. Entry was gained and the male was found to have taken sleeping pills and in a very drowsy state. EMS treated the male and transported him to the hospital.  

Feb. 6 – The victim of fraud reported to police that he purchased two cell phones from a seller on Facebook. The victim met the suspect in a parking lot in Ponoka, but the seller refused to allow the victim to fully inspect the phones before the money was transferred. Once the money was e-transferred, the victim later inspected the phones to discover that they were fake. Police have identified a suspect and are continuing the investigation.  

Feb. 11 – Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of an assault that had just taken place near the IGA. Members arrived and located the victims who advised that they were driving and noticed three people wearing masks and appeared to be trying to break into a house. The victims stopped and an altercation occurred resulting in the victim receiving injuries to his face and a broken truck window. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. Police have identified the suspect and charges are pending.  

Feb. 15 – Police were alerted to a possible impaired driver leaving the Liquor Store. A male was observed carrying a brown paper bag, possibly containing a liquor bottle. The male was unsteady on his feet, got into a vehicle, and drove away. Patrols were unsuccessful in locating the vehicle.  

Feb.18 – Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a robbery with a firearm on 38 Ave Close. Three victims in a vehicle were pulled out of their vehicle and physically threatened. While attempting to leave the scene both vehicles got stuck, and the suspects fled on foot. Multiple resources were initiated including a helicopter. A female was arrested on scene at the vehicles and a male was arrested shortly after in a nearby forested area. Charges against the two include Robbery with a Firearm, Flight from Police, Dangerous operation of a Motor Vehicle and Resist arrest.
