The Estevan Police Service posted its most recent quarterly report, covering October to December, earlier this month and showed it off during Monday night's council meeting.

The first section of their report focused on traffic statistics, beginning with Targeted Traffic Enforcement Operations. Those saw a decrease in charges to 444, down from 604 in the third quarter and 501 in the second.

In comparison, the charges for impaired driving rose in the fourth quarter to 17, compared to the third and second quarter's eight. Low BAC and cannabis license suspensions did stay at 11, keeping with quarter 3, but was a drop from quarter 2's 26.

The fourth quarter saw the most high-visibility check stops at four, with that subsequently seeing the most inspected vehicles with 1,119 over those four check stops.

Motor vehicle collisions were the highest in quarter 4 at 44, compared to quarter 3's 33.

Moving onto drug statistics, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act arrests were low at five compared to 13 in quarter 3. The value of drugs taken off the streets was middle of the quarters with $93,300 worth of drugs seized.

In looking at some of the ways crimes were responded to, the EPS posted some lower figures for quarter 4, including 33 per cent of reported criminal incidents resulting in charges, 84 compliance/conditions checks on known offenders, and a single crimestoppers tip received. Foot patrol hours were the highest of the year in quarter 4 with 56, and members attended 108 special community engagements.

The report also showed that topics like workplace training and wellness had similar numbers to the other quarters.

Looking at the budget, The EPs received $116,600 from the provincial government for staffing positions. Of their total budget, the EPS used up 96.3 per cent of that.

Comparing the officer-population ratio of Estevan, it was found to be on the higher end with 203 officers per 100,000 population. That was higher than Weyburn (172) Saskatoon (168)  Moose Jaw (164) and Regina (166) while being below Prince Albert (229).
