The town of Crossfield is making a strong push for a $250,000 arena upgrade and the chance to host an NHL game as part of Kraft Hockeyville’s national competition.

Jennifer Watson, president of the Crossfield Skating Club, said the bid is about more than just renovations; it’s about creating lasting memories for local youth.

“Our arena needs upgrades, and this competition not only provides funding but also the opportunity to bring an NHL game to our community, that would be monumental for the kids, real core memory building.”

Crossfield currently sits fifth in the national rankings and first in the Western division. Only the top-ranked arena from each division will advance to the final four, making it crucial for supporters to rally behind the Pete Knight Arena before the voting deadline on Sunday at 9:30 p.m.

Residents and hockey enthusiasts are encouraged to visit the Kraft Hockeyville Website and submit their stories about the arena’s significance to the community. Sharing personal stories and experiences earns valuable points toward the bid.

Mayor Kim Harris emphasizes that the competition isn’t just about winning; it’s about bringing people together.

“This isn’t just about Crossfield. It’s a chance for our neighbours to join in, share their stories, and be part of something special. A win for us is a win for the entire region.”

Local businesses are also getting involved, offering incentives to those who register and prove their vote. Meanwhile, a support hub will be set up at the arena on Sunday (March 2), where volunteers will assist residents in submitting their entries.

“This arena is more than just a rink, it’s the heart of our town. It’s a place for hockey, skating, farmers markets, graduations, and so much more. We need to keep it going for future generations.” said Harris

With the deadline approaching, Watson is urging everyone, whether they’ve laced up skates or not, to sign up, vote, leave a story and spread the word.

“The entire town and beyond is behind this, now we just need to make that final push.”
