The owner of a Foothills County business pleaded guilty to two weapons charges, and was cleared of several others, including an animal neglect charge, last Friday (Feb. 21).

On Oct. 7, 2024, High River RCMP announced that several charges were laid against Justin Stenebaugh, the owner of The Dawg Father Daycare and Boarding.

Officers were called to the business a month prior, with the charges laid as a result of officers seeing "evidence of weapons offences in plain view," and "animals not being suitably cared for," according to the Oct. 7 RCMP media release.

Stenabaugh appeared in provincial court on Feb. 21, where he was cleared of several of the weapon's charges and the animal neglect charge.

He pleaded guilty to unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon and careless use or storage of a firearm.

He received a 12-month conditional sentence, six month's probation, and a firearm prohibition.

Speaking in a video posted on his business's Facebook page, Stenabaugh described the day of his arrest as a deeply traumatic moment, as he had to call 9-1-1 due to his girlfriend having a seizure, with the police showing up afterward.

"I love each and every one of you that has stood by us and supported us," said Stenabaugh.
