With the arrival of warmer temperatures this week, the ice skating trail at the Lions Centennial Park is now closed for the season.

The ice surface is no longer functional for users and can no longer be maintained.

The Town of Ponoka is also reminding citizens to be cautious around the Battle River and stormwater ponds as the snow and ice melt away.

Residents are reminded to keep children and pets off of the river ice and stormwater ponds at all times, and to keep dogs on a leash.

Regardless of how thick a patch of river ice may look, due to constantly flowing water beneath the ice surface, there are weak spots that can quickly give way.

This is also true for the fishing pond at Lions Centennial Park, which is a stormwater pond with water flowing through an inlet and outlet pipe throughout the year.
