Applications for the 2025 Environmental Initiatives Grant are now open.

Designed to support local projects and initiatives that aim to improve environmental sustainability, this grant helps to achieve the vision and goals of Red Deer’s Environmental Master Plan.

The grant achieved remarkable success last year by supporting diverse projects that empowered youth, reduced waste, promoted sustainable food practices, sparked innovation, and enhanced urban biodiversity, leaving a lasting positive impact on both the environment and the community. New this year is the Environmental Investment category, which supports longer-term projects over a three-year period. The Environmental Innovation category returns to support short-term projects completed within a year. Grants are available for a range of project sizes, with funding of up to $10,000available per successful application.

Applicants are encouraged to submit creative, feasible proposals that contribute to the City's ongoing efforts to support community-led projects and promote environmental sustainability.

“We encourage all registered non-profit societies in Red Deer with a passion for environmental change to apply for funding, which can help to provide the necessary resources to bring local sustainability projects to life.” said Phil Boehme, Acting Superintendent, Community Development. “Whether you’re looking to enhance the health of our environment, foster stronger connections between people and nature, or increase collaboration through environmental initiatives, this grant offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact.”
