Over 130 competitors took part in the Alberta Indoor Rowing Championships held March 1 in Blackfalds at the Abbey Centre.

"It ran incredibly smoothly, despite all the software issues we had in the couple of weeks beforehand," said Andy Nokes, president of the Central Alberta Rowing Club.

The event featured competitors of all ages and skill levels.

"We had this guy, Jacques Aarts, from the Edmonton Rowing Club. He's 83. He finished the Masters, so it's 1,000 metres. I think it took him under four minutes for 1,000 metres," mentioned Nokes.

The youngest competitor at the event was 16 years of age.

Nokes said a highlight for him was the team relay event, which featured 16 teams with each competitor rowing 500 metres.

The Abbey Centre housed 14 indoor racing machines, with another 24 for warm-up.

This year marked the 20th year that the Central Alberta Rowing Club has hosted the Alberta Indoor Rowing Championships.
