Strathmore resident Claude Brown is the first registered candidate for the upcoming municipal election.

Brown placed his bid on Mar. 10 at the Strathmore Municipal Building and said he hopes to bring a new face to town council.

"I feel very qualified to do that. I've talked to a lot of people in town, and I really feel that I represent their points of view, and I want to bring that to council and do my part."

He was inspired to run for council after spending the previous summer campaigning on a petition against the garage and garden suites bylaw.

If elected, Brown intends to create a full review of all existing land-use bylaws and to work towards cutting taxes for residents.

"I also think there are some services that could be improved in town. I do hear a lot about the snow removal," added Brown. "I believe that once the snowstorm is over and the main routes are cleaned, the town should clean up the side streets as well."

"You need to make sure the citizens can get around, especially the elderly."

Throughout the election cycle, Brown will jump between his work and his campaign.

"I'm looking forward to knocking on doors I have not knocked on before, going to events, and meeting more Strathmore residents just to hear their concerns and where they are at."

Nominations opened for the municipal election earlier this year, with voting being held on October 20.
