Joint East Cochrane/SOTB election forum set for Oct. 4
The Cochrane Settlement Community Association (East Cochrane) is partnering with Seniors on the Bow (SOTB) to host a Candidates’ Forum on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The event, to be held at SOTB upstairs in the SLS Centre, will give residents a chance to meet local council candidates before advanced voting begins. Light refreshments will be provided.
Organizers say the forum will follow a structured agenda to ensure each candidate has an opportunity to speak.
Wheatland County makes changes to electoral division boundaries
Some changes have come to the electoral boundaries in the upcoming Wheatland County Municipal Election.
Council approved the changes on Sept. 17, 2024, with the new boundaries coming into effect on Oct. 19 or the day before the 2025 municipal election, whichever is earlier.

The list of Okotoks candidates running in the 2025 municipal election has grown to 16.
With the Sept. 22 nomination deadline approaching, 15 candidates are vying for a seat on town council, while incumbent Mayor Tanya Thorn remains the only declared mayoral candidate.
Council race heats up in Cochrane with 15 candidates
As of yesterday, there are 15 candidates for Cochrane town council in the upcoming fall election.
Todd Muir is the latest to officially register after previously filing his intention to run.
A 23-year resident of Cochrane, Muir is a management professional and consultant who has worked for and with several municipalities, including Rocky View County, Red Deer, the town and municipal district of Bonnyville, Edmonton, and Moose Jaw.
Councillor Belyk stresses responsible growth in re-election bid
Airdrie Councillor Darrell Belyk is running for re-election in the upcoming Airdrie Municipal Election.
Belyk was first elected to the council in 2013 and is seeking his fourth term. He explained that watching the city grow has only made him love Airdrie more and more.
"I see Airdrie as a growing community, it's connected and a safe and vibrant city where people live, work and play, and that's basically what I'm looking for, for the next five to 10 years, is where people don't have to leave the city for key services."
Nomination deadline approaching for Red Deer’s 2025 Municipal Election
The nomination deadline for the 2025 Municipal Election is fast approaching. Prospective candidates intending to run for Mayor, City Councillor or School Board Trustee must submit their completed nomination papers by Monday, September 22 at 12 p.m. (noon).
All nomination requirements and forms are available at elections.reddeer.ca. Candidates are encouraged to book an appointment in advance to submit their paperwork, ensuring Election Office staff are available to review and receive submissions.
Here’s what you need to know about registering to vote in the municipal election
The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming municipal election is quickly approaching.
This year, voters must be registered by Sept. 15 to appear on the Permanent Electors Register.
Voters who are registered must provide a valid ID with their name and address before casting their vote.
To cast a ballot, voters must have a valid ID.
Reed seeking third council term with focus on growth, environment, and economy
Cochrane councillor Alex Reed has announced he will seek a third term in office, centring his campaign on sustainable growth, environmental stewardship, and diversifying the tax base.
Reed said the community’s rapid growth requires stronger planning and infrastructure investment.
“We need to get ahead of this growth in terms of infrastructure, and I think stability in terms of growth is critical,” he said.
Susan Flowers stepping back from council, but not the community
Cochrane town councillor Susan Flowers has announced she will not seek a third term and says she is proud of what was accomplished over the past eight years.
“I love Cochrane and I want the best for it,” Flowers said. “But I’m just getting burnt out from the late-night meetings and the vast number of important topics we have, and the dissension on council has made it even more challenging. It hasn’t been easy.”
