In rural areas, the firefighting departments are using the warmer weather to get some training kickstarted ahead of fires picking up this summer.
AS winter comes to a close, Redvers Fire Chief Brad Hutton says they haven't seen much action in the area.
"It's been going really good actually. Knock on wood, we've had a quiet year so far. We had one tractor fire a while ago, which the cause was likely a block heater cord shorting out. But yeah, other than that pretty low key."
Hutton has some training already planned for the spring focusing on agricultural emergencies.
"Training-wise, I've got a farm rescue course booked here for March 22nd. We're gonna bring in some more combines and grain augers and work on some areas with people with arms caught in grain augers, and regular pick us, and see the whole issues where people would get caught in a combine incident, and then set up some tractor roll over scenarios as well."
Hutton says that with the 8-10 Redvers volunteers and a few from other towns set to turn out for the practice, he expects them to be able to learn a lot.
