The Town of Didsbury is trying to figure out what they should do with a number of movie props that have been donated to them over the past couple of years.

Rhonda Hunter, the Mayor of Didsbury, explained they have garnered several props, started by the production company of "Wynona Earp".

"As we move through different movies and films that were coming here, we often also gathered props from those films at the companies, the film companies were happy to share with us."

Other major films they have garnered props from include “Under the Banner of Heaven” and “The Order”.

She explained that they are proud to have these props, but with some of them being large, they are taking up room that the town does not have. She also shared that while some could be reusable, most were made specifically for the films.

"They're very valuable to a film-friendly town. It speaks a lot for our tourism, our welcoming of the film industry, and our relationships with them.  The motion was to look at the retention or disposal of the film props. I favor that we retain them and then use them to the benefit of our community and show off the films that were here."

Hunter also shared that anybody involved in economic development (those coming up with the ideas about what to do with the props) is certainly not looking to dispose of them.

"I think we have the right committee and department that will be researching that because they have some great ideas too on how they could be displayed around town, or if there's a building big enough somewhere that would make that possible. But I know the town doesn't have that facility."

She explained they are proud to have these many props and so many popular films wanting to film within the town.

"We do have a beautiful community. We've captured the attention of Hollywood, and we're very proud of that for sure. When you see your town on the screen, it is a great feeling."

A showcase of the props was set up in October 2024 for visitors to 'Didsbury Day' as part of the "Wynona Earp" convention held in Calgary for fans from around the world.

A decision on their future will be made by the town council soon. Hunter concluded by saying a big announcement could be on the way for more filming taking place in the community.
