The Innisfail Eagles scored three straight goals in the third period Saturday night at Twin Arena to take a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-seven Vanberg Cup Final over the Lacombe Generals.
The Eagles broke a three-all tie in the third en route to the 6-3 victory.
The Eagles opened the scoring at 13:01 of the first when Tyler Berkholtz found the back of the net.
Cam Maclise responded for the Generals to tie the game at 10:33 of the first.
Innisfail regained the lead a few minutes later on a goal by Chase Thudium, who scored his eighth of the playoffs.
Lacombe battled back in the second as Thomas Beretta beat Eagles goalie Chance Griffith to tie the game at two.
Ty Clay put the home side back in front at 8:40 of the second.
Jared Williams tied the game at three late in the middle frame with an assist from Ryan Swier.
It was all Innisfail in the third as the Eagles pulled away on goals by Justin Molzahn, Quintin Lisoway, and Dave Nippard to seal the 6-3 victory.
The Eagles outshot the Generals 54-27 on the night. Both teams were held scoreless on the power play.
Game 3 of the North Central Senior AA Hockey League Championship goes Sunday afternoon (March 16) at 2:30 p.m. at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex in Lacombe.
Tickets are $10 at the door. Students and seniors are $8.
