The Lacombe Generals picked up their first win of the Vanberg Cup Final beating Innisfail 4-3 at home Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of about 900 people.

The Eagles lead the best-of-seven North Central Senior AA Hockey League championship series 2-1.

The Generals were up 2-0 after the first with goals by Jared Williams (short-handed) and Craig Gans, who picked up three points in the game.

Lacombe increased its lead to 3-0 when Colin Zimmer found the back of the net early in the second.

Nick Bell got the Eagles on the board midway through the period with his first of the playoffs.

The Generals went up 4-1 late in the second on a goal by Thomas Beretta on the power play.

Innisfail mounted a comeback in the third with Chase Thudium and Jacob Wozney scoring late in the period, but Lacombe was able to hang on for the 4-3 victory.

The Generals were 1-for-5 on the power play, while Innisfail went 0-for-5.

Lacombe outshot Innisfail 43-33.

Game 4 goes Friday night (March 21) back in Innisfail. Puck drop is 8 p.m.

Game 5 is back in Lacombe with a 7:45 p.m. start on Saturday night (March 22).
