The Ponoka RCMP issued a report on some of the calls received between Feb. 23 and March 18.
Here are the calls:
Feb. 23 – The Ponoka RCMP responded to an early morning complaint from a cyclist who reported that a vehicle had attempted to run him over. The cyclist stated that a black or dark coloured SUV pulled up beside him while he was riding and the driver asked if he was out stealing. The driver continued past, pulled a U-turn, drove straight to the cyclist who then dropped his bike and ran, the SUV drove over the bicycle and continued on. The matter is still under investigation.
Feb. 24 – Members attended a residence after receiving a report of an unknown male entering the residence and stating to the resident that his vehicle has broken down. The complainant locked the door once the male exited the residence, but he continued to knock on the door until police arrived. When members arrived, the vehicle was parked halfway up the driveway, a male walked to the members but would not follow commands given by the members on scene. The male was taken into custody and secured in a police vehicle. Members observed that the male was exhibiting mental health concerns and subsequently was taken to hospital to be treated. The complainant declined charges.
Feb. 24 – A motorist reported an encounter with two males claiming to be out of gas and attempting to sell gold for cash. Further reports received in Blackfalds of the same two males attempting the same fraud. The two males were not located or identified. Please be aware that this is a recurring scam and that the gold is not real.
Feb. 28 – Police were alerted of a male at the medical clinic who had made threats towards one of the doctors. The male was located and assessed for mental health concerns. The male was transported to the hospital for assessment. No charges were laid.
March 1 – A male was reported to police walking around trying the door handles of parked vehicles. Extensive patrols were made at the time but were unsuccessful in locating the male.
March 5 – A citizen was alerted by a neighbour of an unknown male in their garage. The owner checked the garage and located a male sleeping inside. The owner asked the male to leave to which the male was cooperative and left the garage. Patrols were made to locate the male, however, they were unsuccessful. It was determined that the garage door was not secured which allowed the male easy access inside. Nothing was damaged or stolen.
March 7 – Members responded to a report of a male on 54th Street with a large stick smashing several vehicles. Members arrived on scene and located the male who advised that he had a bad day and had smashed several vehicles, one being his own. The male was arrested and charged and released with a court date.
March 14 – While on patrol a member observed a group of individuals fighting in the parking lot of 7-11. When the member activated the emergency lights on the police vehicle and announced “Police” two males continued to fight. One male was arrested and taken into custody, the second male swore at police and ran away on foot. The second male was identified and will be facing charges once located. The matter is still under investigation.
March 17 – Police responded to a single vehicle collision on 46th street. A truck left the road and struck a fence. When police arrived, a female was located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The female driver provided a breath sample that resulted in a “Fail.” EMS attended and transported the female with
minor injuries. The female did not hold a valid driver license due to previous impaired charges and was subsequently charged for multiple offences.
March 18 – The Ponoka RCMP responded to a residential structure fire on 53rd Ave. Ponoka Fire department responded and was able to contain the fire. The scene was released following the completion of the fire investigation that deemed the matter suspicious. Police are actively investigating the fire.
