The Estevan Curling Club has been awarded the 2025 U18 Girls and Boys Curling Provincial Championship, which will take place in December.
Estevan Curling Club President Tyler McMillen made the announcement, calling it a fantastic opportunity to showcase the club, the community, and the province’s top young curlers. He emphasized the club’s commitment to working closely with CurlSask to ensure a successful event.
“Hosting an event of this caliber takes teamwork, and I know our host committee will be working hard behind the scenes to prepare,” McMillen said. “Dedication and commitment will be key in making this a memorable experience for athletes, coaches, and spectators alike.”
He also noted that volunteers would play a vital role, with opportunities available in areas such as ice preparation, hospitality, and logistics. More details on volunteering will be released in the fall.
Pauline Ziehl-Grimsrud, a member of the organizing committee, expressed her excitement about hosting the event.
“We're really looking forward to putting on a great event,” she said. “We're going to take the best of everybody's ideas and put some of our own in there.”
She added that securing the bid was a proud moment for the club.
“When I got the phone call that day, I was pretty excited and pretty happy,” Ziehl-Grimsrud said. “They trust us to hold this event.”
CurlSask President Helen Fornwald also shared her enthusiasm about bringing another major event to Estevan, praising the city’s strong history of hosting top-tier curling competitions.
“Estevan’s no stranger to curling events, and they’ve all been very successful,” Fornwald said.
“We worked so closely with them, and they raise the bar with every curling event,” she added. “They have the most outstanding, committed, dedicated volunteers. Their planning committee always raises the bar with every event, so we’re excited to be back in the community.”
Fornwald noted that the championship will allow curlers from across the province to experience different facilities and ice conditions. She looks forward to working with the local organizing committee over the next nine months to ensure a successful event.
The championship will be held at Estevan’s curling facility, with full details on the venue and schedule to be announced at a later date.
