Red Deer's Leona Staples received the 'Women in Ag Notable Lifetime Achiever' Award from Agricultural Financial Services Corporation (AFSC), at their gala awards banquet in Calgary on March 16.

As the co-owner and operator of The Jungle Farm, Staples has spent decades fostering agriculture education, agritourism, and business mentorship. 

Her farm welcomes over 30,000 visitors each year, ensuring that consumers understand the importance of agriculture and local food production.

"Leona doesn’t just create opportunities—she ensures that others have the tools, confidence, and support to succeed," said nominator Holly Bilton. "Her influence spans generations, and her dedication to the advancement of women in agriculture will be felt for years to come."

Staples has also served on the Olds College Board of Governors and played a key role in launching the Calgary Farmers’ Market.

She has also spent more than 30 years as part of the Innisfail Growers Cooperative, a pioneering collaboration that has helped farm families remain viable, profitable, and connected to their communities.

Staples has dedicated her career to ensuring others have the tools and knowledge they need to succeed taking part in 4-H, school programs, business development, and industry leadership.
