With spring officially here, the forecast for Central Alberta is looking favourable for the foreseeable future.
Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada Danielle Desjardins says that temperatures are going to be above normal for the next week or so.
The normal for this time of year is a high of plus six and a low of minus seven.
"We are going to see temperatures into the double digits, maybe even the low teens for early next week," she said.
Desjardins notes the region could experience some rain showers or flurries Friday afternoon into Saturday but those are going to be pretty scattered and will melt right away. We could also see a thunderstorm later into the day on Friday.
The long-range forecast also looks to be warmer than normal.
"Overall, when we're looking at our projections for the springtime, the models are still saying warmer than normal," noted Desjardins. "We will get some of the ups and downs and we will have some days that are below normal. This is saying that we'll have more days above normal for the rest of spring."
She says the Red Deer area has received about 44 per cent of normal precipitation over the winter, making it the third driest on record.
Desjardins adds that could change, however, as March and April are the two snowiest months during the year, so more snow could be on the way.
