Rocky Mountain House Town Council reviewed resident feedback regarding the location of a new disc golf course at the March 20 regular meeting.

In January, an open house was held, that included a presentation from the Central Alberta Disc Golf Association (CADGA), the Town Recreation Director, and a question-and-answer period.

The Riverview/River Flats area and the area adjacent to the West Central High School campus were identified as potential locations for an 18-hole course.

Location considerations included space, proximity to existing facilities, terrain, and land availability.

After the open house, an online survey was available for residents to provide their feedback on the project.

After reviewing the feedback gathered, the Riverview Park/River Flats area is no longer being considered.

The survey report indicated that the general preference for location was the high school.

Residents concerns about the disc golf course related to environmental impact, access to amenities such as washrooms and parking, proximity to residences, and safety.

Town administration will continue working with the Wild Rose School Division and CADGA to finalize a course design adjacent to the high school campus.

If the school division does not give permission to use land for the disc golf course, additional discussion will be needed to find a suitable location.

The course design has not yet been finalized.
