Local students' artwork is now on display at Lacombe Memorial Centre (LMC) for the Encore Art Sale Student Art Exhibition and Competition.
This year, there are 48 pieces of art from junior and high school students in the Wolf Creek Public Schools division, ranging from pencil to metal sculpture, and everything in between.
“People can expect to have their minds blown,” said Maureen MacKenzie, City of Lacombe Arts and Culture, Cemetery Coordinator.
“Students can create whatever suits them. Some of the pieces can be a little bit dark if the students are going through a really rough time," she added. “The main thing is that these students can express themselves and be creative, that's what we want.”

By entering their artwork into the exhibition, students have a chance to win an Art Award or an Honorable Mention Award.
Award categories include the Dustin Peers Memorial Drawing Award, Jan Holoboff Jr. High School Art Award, Charlie Donald Memorial High School Art Award, Bob Creurer Mixed Media / Abstract Art Award, and the People’s Choice Award, where viewers can vote for their favourite piece.
“Every student should have an opportunity to be creative, and have their work put on display in the public realm so that everybody can appreciate how hard they've been working on their artwork,” MacKenzie said. “The kids are just so talented. People really do need to take the time to come and see their artwork.”
The student artwork will be on display until April 12.
