It's been quite a journey for Taras McEwen.

After being unexpectedly elevated to the position of Swift Current Broncos head coach last season, McEwen has coached in over 100 regular season games and two playoff rounds.

Now he's preparing for another playoff run in the city where his father Brad also once coached.

"A great opportunity and moment to come back here," McEwen said. "Somewhere where I have a lot of history and family has a lot of history coming back into this building. It's real special. I enjoy coming to the rink every day. I enjoy this community. I enjoy working with these players and want to do nothing but create a competitive culture for this city."

The 34-year-old is 66-43-4-2 since taking over in November 2023 as Swift Current's bench boss.

"When the team is good we have the best fans and one of the best buildings in the league," McEwen said. "I've really enjoyed being here and want to continue building that and continue to help the team win."

The Broncos face the Medicine Hat Tigers in the first round of the WHL playoffs.

That series starts Friday and Saturday in Medicine Hat and continues next Tuesday and Wednesday in Swift Current.
