A local striker is becoming a Dino.
Swift Current's Navy Louma is committed to the University of Calgary Dinos to play soccer starting in the 2026-27 U Sports season.
"I chose to play for the Calgary Dinos because they are a really highly competitive team, and they consistently finished within the top ten of the Canada West Women's Soccer U Sport," Louma said. "Their coaching style really matches my game, and I know I'll continue to develop as a player in their program."
Calgary also suited Navy's needs for education.
"The University of Calgary also has a really great kinesiology program which will give me a strong educational I can still compete at a high level," Louma noted. "With the new women's pro league in Canada launching this April, I have a chance to watch some of the games and watch the Calgary Wild in action while I'm there."
Louma attended an ID camp last summer and is really appreciative of getting the opportunity to commit even before she plays her final season of high school eligibility.
"This opportunity means so much to me because it (validates) all my dedication," Louma said. "I put it in the sacrifice and the love for the game. I started playing soccer when I was about four years old, and at the time I didn't even know what it would mean to me. Eventually I found a passion for the sport that drove me to want to get better. I trained so much outside of practice, traveled so much for games, got home late on school nights, and I also had to check out of my comfort zone to play on new teams. I've given my all to the sport, so it really helps me build my confidence, and it's just really awesome."
Louma still has another season of high school eligibility left with a very successful Swift Current Comp. Ardens program.
"In my last year of high school, I'm really hoping to refine my skills," she added. "I'm going to focus hard on training still while staying game ready for the university level competition, while also prioritizing my academics. I have really set my sights on being an all-Canadian athlete one days, so I'm also working on building some strong student athlete habits that will help me get there while still making time for my family, friends, and lots of weekend trips home to Swift."
Louma will also play for Team Saskatchewan in the Canada Summer Games.
