The Alberta government has introduced temporary measures allowing military reservists to deploy for the G7 Leaders' Summit in Kananaskis Country this June.
Alberta Jobs Minister Matt Jones says reservists will be granted job-protected leave, ensuring they can keep their civilian jobs while supporting the summit.
"They brought to my attention that reservists would not be covered under reservist leave to participate, so we made a regulatory change," said Jones.
The summit, taking place June 15-17, will see leaders from several nations, including the U.S., U.K., and Japan. Around 80 Alberta reservists have already signed up for work-up training, with reservists from other provinces also expected to take part.
“This is a rare opportunity for our province’s reservists,” said Alberta military liaison Justin Wright, adding, “For many, this may be a once-in-a-lifetime chance.”

Security measures in Kananaskis will include restricted access, increased patrols, and designated protest zones.
