The Steinbach Pistons staved off elimination with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Portage Terriers on March 29. The game saw Portage go 0/5 on the powerplay, but killing off all four penalties they were assessed.
Steinbach would score a pair of goals near the mid-way point of the first period, as the Terriers got trapped inside their defensive zone a couple of times in succession, giving the Pistons a 2-0 lead to end the first frame.
No goals were scored in the second period, as the teams would trade a single powerplay each, and off-setting minor penalties as well. Steinbach led in shots 32-11 through 40 minutes.
Steinbach would add a third goal just over 6 minutes into the third period, extending their lead even further. Decker Mujcin would add his third of the playoffs with around four and a half minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late, as Steinbach held on to the 3-1 lead, despite a late powerplay for Portage.
Final shots on goal saw Steinbach double up the Terriers, with 42 against Portage's 20.
Both teams will return to Portage for Game 6 of the quarter-final series on Monday, March 31, with the opening puck drop slated for 7:30 p.m.
